On September 28, Emporium will come alive with the mouth watering smells of BBQ. Turkey, pork, ribs, brisket, and chicken wings slathered in the best BBQ sauces or rubs and grilled to perfection for your taste buds to enjoy. They also kick in sides and desserts to make it a “belly bustin’, lip smackin’ good time.”
At the All Fired Up & Kickin’ Ash BBQ Competition, the public can purchase food starting at 11am on Saturday, but the fun for the competitors starts way before that. Tina Johns Solak of the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce comments, “The contest turns 5 years old this year. Friday afternoon the smokers roll in and by Friday night following the CCHS homecoming game the smoke will be rolling along with music and beverages served by Allegany Chapter of Nam Knights. About 9pm the competitors will be given the mystery meat to prepare. The winner takes home $500 sponsored by Embassy Powdered Metals. “
Saturday at 9am while the smokers are filling the town with the smell of BBQ, bike riders will be heading off on either a 55- or 14-mile ride. Competitors will prepare for the judging to start at noon on Saturday. Categories judged are wings, turkey, sides, pork ribs, pulled pork, desserts, beef brisket and mystery meat. Judging ends at 330pm on Saturday. The public is welcome to enjoy BBQ, music and drinks from 11am – 6pm.
