Brockway’s 50th annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration will include an All Star Big Band Concert as part of a full holiday weekend of attractions.

The concert will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at the American Legion Memorial Stage in Taylor Memorial Park in Brockway.

Under the direction of Brockway natives Bill Stowman and Brad Genevro, the Brockway All Star Big Band was established to honor Brockway’s rich musical association with jazz and to revive the tradition of enjoying music from the big band era as part of the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration.

Both hold PhDs in music and are on the faculty at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg. Stowman is professor of music and co-chairman of the Department of Music. Genevro is director of bands and associate professor of music. Stowman and Genevro created the event in order to honor their Brockway teachers, George Monaco and Don Routch.

Some of the best players in Pennsylvania have been assembled to fill the ranks of the All Star Big Band. They, too, have come to respect and admire the history associated with the town and its music.

Those who long for the sounds of yesteryear and want to embrace a longstanding Brockway tradition are invited to come out and enjoy the Brockway All Star Big Band as it leads a journey through the big band era and celebrates a truly American art form.
