Clarion County is the western gateway to the PA Great Outdoors and Pennsylvania Wilds regions, and home to Clarion University, Cook Forest State Park, two Wild & Scenic rivers-the Clarion and the Allegheny, the oldest Golf Course in continuous play in the U.S.-Foxburg Country Club, and a world-famous fall event, Clarion’s Autumn Leaf Festival.

The town of Clarion is in the middle of the county along the banks of Piney Reservoir on the Clarion River. It’s easily reached by car via Interstate 80 (exit 62) from Pittsburgh, Cleveland, New York City, Buffalo, and Erie. There are forest-covered mountains in every direction, which makes it a very scenic place in all four seasons. In fall, the forests around Clarion are bursting with brightly colored red, orange, and yellow trees.  The annual Autumn Leaf Festival is a huge annual 9-day event featuring crafters day on Friday and the Tournament of Leaves Parade on Saturday that coincides with the university’s annual homecoming.

Just half-hour west of downtown Clarion, you’ll find the charming resort town of Foxburg. The town is in the midst of a renaissance. There is a hotel, a thriving performing arts center, and restaurants with views of the Allegheny River, a winery, art gallery, and a chocolatier. The town hosts a Food, Wine and Art Festival each October.

In East Brady, at the south corner of the county, you can spend a day boating Pool 9 on the Allegheny River and take in the stunning panoramic view at Brady’s Bend.  In the north corner of the county is beautiful Cook Forest State Park, a national treasure with huge 350 year-old trees and all types of fun outdoor family activities.

New Bethlehem hosts the Clarion County Fair and the proud home of the Redbank Valley Trail which was the first trail ever in the state to earn the honor of Pennsylvania’s Trail of the Year.
