Forest County

Discover Forest County

If you need to get away from the crowd, head to the beautiful woodland paradise known as Forest County. The Allegheny National Forest has hundreds of miles of ATV, snowmobile, hiking, and horseback riding trails and is also one of the few places in the country where you can see synchronized fireflies dance. Explore the Wild & Scenic Allegheny and Clarion rivers and Cook Forest State Park “America’s Best Old-Growth Forest”.

Marienville

Marienville is the gateway to the Allegheny National Forest and its hundreds of miles of trails for ATV, snowmobiles, hiking, and horseback riding. Each May and October, nearly 1,000 ATV enthusiasts come to Marienville for Tour-De-Forest, an organized leisure ride. The annual winter festival features an inspiring snowmobile torchlight parade. Nature lovers flock to Buzzard Swamp for spectacular wildlife and bird watching, including bald eagle and osprey.

Tionesta

Tionesta is a charming town located on the banks of the Wild & Scenic Allegheny River. The Market Village is a must-see attraction that offers shoppers a collection of local merchants offering a variety of handmade treasures. Early summer, is Firefly season when the night is fielded with a spectacular synchronized light show in the Allegheny National Forest. Each July, cowboys and cowgirls compete in the 3-night outdoor Allegheny Mountain Championship Rodeo. The town’s Native American heritage is celebrated each August with the Tionesta Indian Festival. Tionesta boasts Pennsylvania’s only in-land functioning lighthouse, which open for tours several times per year.

Cook Forest

Cook Forest State Park gives visitors the chance to explore ancient stands of giant trees. Men’s Journal called it “America’s Best Old-Growth Forest”. The Clarion River flows through the park and is popular with both paddlers and fishermen. Seneca Point and the nearby fire tower offer spectacular views of river valley below. The area surrounding the park has many vacation rentals, restaurants, shops, and fun attractions to enjoy.
