Approximately 46 years ago, fish habitat improvement structures were installed on the East Branch of the Clarion River, not far from the dam outlet along Middle Fork Road. As you can imagine, after nearly 50 years of being in the water, the structures were beginning to fall apart. As a result, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy received a grant to rehabilitate these structures. Last summer, a few of the structures were replaced. This summer, the remainder of the structures will be repaired. The new structures will improve fish habitat and will be kayak friendly. If you are in the area, please expect to see equipment in and around the stream. Construction is anticipated to take place between June 2-5.
Photos from original construction dated April 17, 1979. The caption reads “View of piles of stones or rocks, logs and railroad ties are siding of East Branch of Clarion River Project near Glen Hazel- Middle Fork dirt road (formerly Johnsonburg and Clermont Railroad) that the CEA Title VI group will work on this project this coming summer months.”
