Check Out Clarion and its Neighbors with the Kids

Enjoy the deliciousness of handmade chocolate and other confections at Dan Smith’s in Clarion.

Clarion County contains multiple towns with distinctive character, and they each have intriguing attractions for you and your family. Stop in to the college town of Clarion, where you can visit the impressive Peirce Planetarium at Clarion University and enjoy different programs that explore the region’s endless night skies. For lunch, enjoy a meal at Smokey B’s, Clarion’s noteworthy barbecue joint, or Sweet Basil, a mouthwatering Italian restaurant in nearby Shippenville. Afterward, indulge your sweet tooth at Dan Smith’s Candies on Clarion’s Main Street, known for its variety of kitchen-fresh milk and dark chocolates, plus other candies and novelties.

From there, travel south to New Bethlehem, and stop in at Swift Safariland inside Long Shot Ammo and Arms to wonder at mounted animals from around the world. This animal museum offers free admission and plenty of exhibits to enthrall youngsters and adults alike. Then head outside for a stroll on the Redbank Valley Trail, which features tunnels, bridges, and railroad relics on its path between New Bethlehem and Brookville. From there, head west to the small town of East Brady and impress the kids with the views from Brady’s Bend Overlook, which peers over a sweeping bend in the Allegheny River as it swings around the town of East Brady. Make sure to bring your camera!

Go for a ride around Foxburg.

For a memory they won’t forget for years to come, take a Segway tour of the historic RiverStone Estate in nearby Foxburg. Your kids will love the chance to roll along effortlessly on these intriguing contraptions! Then enjoy a relaxing pontoon boat ride on the Allegheny River. Finish the evening with dinner at the casual, kid-friendly Foxburg Pizza or the Allegheny Grille, a popular sit-down restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the Allegheny River.
