Family Adventures in Sinnemahoning and Emporium
Cameron County provides great opportunities for you and your family to relax and enjoy life in the slow lane. Start at Sinnemahoning State Park with a pontoon boat tour of Stevenson Dam, where you might see bald eagles, elk, bears, coyotes, bobcats, a variety of songbirds, and other wildlife. After your tour, teach your kids how to fish from the banks of the dam, and catch trout, bass, panfish, and catfish. Don’t miss the Wildlife Center at Sinnemahoning State Park, which features state-of-the-art interpretive exhibits on many of the animals found throughout the area.
Head north to Emporium for lunch at Pizza Palace Plus, which has been recognized twice for having the “Best Pizza in America.” From there, stop in to the Cameron County Artisan Center at the county Chamber of Commerce, the perfect place to pick up a souvenir or gift, with works from more than 65 artists and craftspeople.
Afterward, cool off in the pool at Sizerville State Park, or get out on the Sinnemahoning Water Trail. Cameron County offers some of the best trout and smallmouth bass fishing in Pennsylvania, and the Driftwood and Sinnemahoning Branches of the new water trail are good places to drop a line.
If your crew is up for a challenge, spend the afternoon hiking the 4.57-mile Fred Woods Trail, which features unique rock formations and breathtaking views from vistas including Mason Hill Overlook, known as “Top of the World.” If driving is more your speed, you can get there by car as well. Stay until late and watch night fall under some of the darkest skies in the eastern United States, and soak up spectacular views of more stars than you may ever see anywhere else.
