Mayfest……the unofficial start to summer. Once a year, in the town of Fryburg in northern Clarion County, the town comes alive with events and activities Friday night and all-day Saturday on Memorial Day weekend. This year celebrates the 28th Mayfest Festival. The theme for 2019 is “United We Stand: Come Join the Fun!” Mayfest provides inexpensive family-oriented activities and entertainment while celebrating Memorial Day. The festivities are held in Fryburg, PA, which is located within a half hour drive of Clarion and Cook Forest.
Friday events include a 5K Run or Walk in memory of Arianna Evans and a Corn Hole Tournament in memory of Dick Kapp. There is also a fish fry at the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Dept and a Pulled Pork Dinner and Hot Dogs at PJ’s.
Saturday starts off with a rummage sale, indoor craft show, and local yard sales. The day continues with free entertainment including inflatable games, bungee jump, face painting, dragon fly balloon artist, barrel train, touch-a-truck, and a tractor show.
New to Mayfest, is the Dino ROAR Dinosaur show with 8 animatronic dinosaurs and fossils. Dino ROAR was founded on the principle of having fun. Come out and see, touch, and feel dinosaurs up to 15 ft long. The event is slated for 5pm – 6pm on Saturday, May 25.
Mayfest also includes a car cruise, motorcycle show, flag dedication, church tours, chicken barbeque, and a family tail gate party. Saturday, of course, would not be complete without a firework display at dusk.
