Barbecue was once only considered a southern specialty, but the popularity of slow smoked meats has exploded across the country in recent years. PA Great Outdoors Visitor Bureau has partnered with many great non-profits to help promote the growing number of barbecue festivals our area. Now you can sample some of tastiest barbecue in the region at the 5 stops on the 2017 PA Great Outdoors BBQ Tour. The first event of 2017 will be the Clarion BBQ Festival May 19-21 at the Clarion Mall. Smoke on the Mountain BBQ Cook-off competition will be June 23-24 at the Fox Township Fire Company in Kersey.
Kill the Grill-Smoke Only BBQ Competition will be held in Pennsylvania’s wild elk country on the grounds of the beautiful Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette on July 8. July 29 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Brookville will be the Brookville BBQ Bash. The final event of the year will be in downtown Emporium September 23 at the All Fired Up & Kickin’ Ash BBQ Competition.
