With the holidays fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about shopping for the loved ones on your list. If your loved ones love the outdoors, you’re in luck: We’ve put together a top-five list of important accessories for the kayaker on your gift list.

As we all head out and enjoy the water, we tend to forget the necessary accessories needed to make our trips more enjoyable and safe, but these products are sure to make a splash with any boater.

1.  DryCASE

DryCASE is a flexible, crystal-clear waterproof case that allows complete use of your phone or camera while keeping it dry and clean.

The case includes a headphone/mic jack, durable lanyard and clip included, EZ-lock top, buoyant neoprene armband, and a vacuum pump. It’s tested to a 100-foot depth for one hour and overnight at more reasonable kayaking depths and works with any phone or MP3 player, so your device will stay safe no matter what you put it through.

MSRP: $39.99

2.  Bilge Pump

Whether you’re paddling calm lakes or whitewater rapids, you should be prepared for anything, and that anything can mean everything when it includes capsizing.

A bilge pump should be an essential carry-on item that will make it easier to get back to what you enjoy most — paddling. Safety first! You can find lots of bilge pumps on the market, so consult a paddling professional to find the best one for your kayaker’s circumstances.

MSRP: $19.95-$29.95

3.  Dry Bag

Dry bags (also known by some as kayak bags) are designed to keep your gear organized, protected and — most importantly — dry, no matter how wet and wild your outing becomes.

Made of waterproof material, these bags roll from the top and snap shut to keep your extra set of warm clothes, snacks, phone, camera, or other gear safe and dry. You can find these in a wide range of sizes, so consider how much gear your kayaker takes on his or her journeys, whether they go out for a few hours or a few days, and if they’ll need to carry gear for other paddlers as well as their own. If you’re not sure, play it safe and size up.

MSRP: $12.95-$39.95

4.  NRS Boundary Shoe

The NRS Boundary Shoe is a high-top, waterproof, warm shoe that’s great for those wet, soggy put-ins and portages.

These are great for year-round paddling, as the neoprene and rubber soles will ensure your kayaker’s feet stay warm and have great traction on any surface.

MSRP: $89.95

5.  Compact Rescue/Throw Bag

The rescue/throw Bag is a vital piece of safety equipment used to rescue a swimmer, help unpin a kayak, tie off a kayak while eating lunch, or haul in your partner if they tire out before the end of your journey.

Bags come in various shapes and sizes, and each boat should carry one in case of emergency.

MSRP: $44-$65

Your local kayak dealer likely has great Black Friday and holiday sales, so make that kayaker on your list a safe and warm this Christmas!
