Each spring, the heart of Elk County explodes in a flurry of noise and sawdust as chainsaw artists from around the world put their creativity on display. The Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, now in its 19th year, attracts tens of thousands of visitors who come to see skilled craftsmen and women transform raw logs into life-size wildlife sculptures, indoor and outdoor furniture, signs, home décor, and other surprisingly intricate works of art. Over the past two decades, the free festival has grown into the largest of its kind in the world. This year, the action transitions to a three-day event, and it all happens April 26-28 in downtown Ridgway.

Over the weekend, visitors can witness 130 chainsaw carvers in action as they showcase their skills and demonstrate their artistry and technique. Feel free to ask the artists questions about their work — most of them will gladly talk about their carvings, and they love to perform for enthusiastic crowds. Carvers will bring finished works to the show and sell them along with their fresh creations made throughout the event, and the public can vote for their favorite carver to win the coveted People’s Choice award.

If you’d like to extend your visit to Ridgway, you can find many quality hotels and motels, bed & breakfasts, cabins and vacation rentals, and other lodging options in town and nearby in St. Marys, Weedville, and Benezette. Additional lodging information is available at
