2025 was full of extraordinary accomplishments at the trout nursery at the Heath Township Sportsmen’s Club. The nursery is located at 17408 Route 949, Sigel, PA 15860 alongside Callen Run and the Wild & Scenic Clarion River. The upkeep and maintenance of the nursery and the fish themselves is quite an undertaking each year. There were many improvement projects completed during 2025. A reinforced concrete retaining wall was installed in our “big fish” pond, several trees removed and roof repairs had to be completed due to winter storms. The uneven cement walkway inside the raceway was jacked hammered out and replaced, and we hauled and placed over 200 tons of fill material in preparation for a future utility building at their Pine Run Road property. In addition, the club completed the annual cleaning and painting of the big fishpond and the adjacent raceway, which was time intensive and very hard work.

During May, the club hosted their annual Kids Fishing and Veterans & First Responders fishing derby at Clear Creek State Park. Last June, the club received more than 8,000 trout fingerlings. The volunteer’s daily feeding helped these trout grow to some of the nicest Heath Township has stocked in many years. The 2025 spring and fall stocking included several local streams and the Clarion River. With the Callen Run Dam removal project once again being placed on hold and the low water levels, this year’s fingerlings were not delivered until mid- October. Please come check out all the improvements at the nursery and of course FEED THE FISH!

2026 Event Schedule:
-Saturday April 4-Opening Day of Trout at the Nursery – Food, Raffles, Memberships, Merchandise.
-Saturday May 2-Youth Fishing Derby at Clear Creek State Park. Prizes will be awarded; food and snacks will be served.
-Sunday May 3-Veterans & First Responders Fishing Derby at Clear Creek State Park. Each Veteran and First Responder will receive a T-shirt and food and snack will be served.
-Saturday, May 9-Woodsy Owl Workday at Clear Creek State Park.
-Monday, June 15-Brookville Laurel Festival Outdoor and Sportsman’s Day.
-Saturday August 15-Seventh Annual Golf Outing at Pinecrest Country Club.
-Saturday October17, 2026: Fall FISHtival at the Nursery – Food, Raffles and Fall trout stocking weekend.
