The PA Wilds BDR-X is a 500-mile loop through the incredible Pennsylvania mountains and forests created by Jack O’Connor and now managed by Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR).
The route runs mostly on dirt and gravel roads through Pennsylvania State Forests with short stretches of pavement throughout. The route is designed in 4 sections with convenient places to eat, camp or lodge overnight at the end of each section. The beauty of being a loop route is that riders can start and finish from any point along the route.
Backcountry Discovery Routes is a non-profit organization that creates off-highway routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel. Dual-sport and adventure motorcycle travel is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States, driven by a broader shift toward outdoor recreation and experience-based travel. The U.S. adventure motorcycle market, valued at about $1.5 billion in 2024, is projected to nearly double by 2034, reflecting sustained demand for versatile, all-terrain bikes. Riders are increasingly drawn to motorcycles that can handle both highways and remote trails, enabling long-distance touring and exploration. This trend is closely tied to the rise of adventure tourism and a growing desire to access less-traveled landscapes. Strong sales growth and record demand in the dual-sport segment further highlight its appeal among both new and experienced riders.
