Locals to the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors region are well aware of the scenic Clarion River and the excellent opportunities it offers for recreation and adventure, but it’s not as recognized outside the state. In 2019, the United Stated Postal Service will give the rest of the country a glimpse of this beautiful waterway by honoring it with a Forever stamp as part of a 12-stamp series on the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The stamp will feature the above photo by Bureau of Land Management photographer Bob Wick that shows a peaceful scene of mist rising above the water near Clarington.

“The miniature works of art illustrated in the 2019 stamp program offer something for everyone’s interest about American history and culture,” said U.S. Postal Service Stamp Services Executive Director Mary-Anne Penner. “From legendary poet Walt Whitman to the entertainment genius of Gregory Hines to the majestic beauty of our Wild and Scenic Rivers, this program is diverse and wide ranging and tells America’s story on stamps.”

This series will be released in 2019, and like all Forever stamps, the stamps it includes will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.

The Clarion River was also recently nominated as one of four possibilities for Pennsylvania’s 2019 River of the Year. The public is invited to vote on their choice for the winner through 5 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019.
