The bright colors of autumn that adorn the mountains and the annual elk rut attract visitors to Pennsylvania’s Great Outdoors Region each fall. There is plenty of family fun to be had at festivals and events too.

Here is look at some of most popular events happening this fall here.

September 12-14 is the annual Chainsaw Carvers Round-up at Cook Forest Sawmill Center for the Arts. Come watch skilled carvers turn logs into incredible works of art. There will be two auctions, Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 3:30pm.

The Tionesta Lions Club will be hosting tours of the historic Sherman Memorial Lighthouse in Tionesta on Saturday, September 13th and Saturday, October 11th. Adults are $5 and children under 12 are $2.

Fall Fest in St. Marys is September 19-21. The event features great food, craft vendors, live entertainment, Farmer’s Market, pancake breakfast, and a Classic Car Cruise-in.

Marienville’s annual Oktoberfest is September 26-28. Town Square in
Downtown Marienville bustles with live music, food, crafts, children’s activities, parades, family fun, and raffles.

ATV riders will flock to Marienville October 4-5 for the Fall Tour De Forest ATV Ride. This is an ATV leisure ride through the scenic Allegheny National Forest on designated forest roads and trails that are not usually open to ATV traffic.

The Annual Haunted Trail Walk will be held at Sandy Beach Park on October 3-4 from 7-10 pm. It’ll bring a Scream to the whole family, and maybe even a Nightmare!

Elktoberfest is Saturday, October 11th at the Benezette School House. It includes craft vendors, homemade chicken noodle soup, homemade chili, smoked pork sandwiches, hotdogs, bake sales, and lots of fun.

The annual First Fork Festival at Sinnemahoning State Park is Saturday, October 11th. Celebrate the history and culture of the First Fork Sinnemahoning Valley with local authors, artists and artisans showcasing their talents amidst a backdrop of full autumn color.

Sunday, October 12th is the annual Colors of Elk County ATV Ride hosted by Elk County Riders ATV in Kersey. $35/ATV & Driver, $5 each additional rider. Registration 9-11am, All riders must return by 5pm. Insurance, Registration and Helmets required. All riders must sign liability waiver. No alcohol. No driver under the age of 16. Basket raffles, 50/50, Games along the way. Snack on return.

Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run in Cameron County is October 18th. There are 3 distance options to this event which includes rail/trail running, dirt road running, and traveling through the Elk State Forest in the heart of the PA Wilds. This is not a closed course.
Select a 12K, 25K or 50K. All events start and end in Emporium with aid stations on the course and food following the event. New in 2025, a relay team may compete in the 50K.

The holiday shopping season kicks off with the annual Cook Forest Gingerbread Tour November 7-9. Shop the twenty-mile corridor leading to Cook Forest State Park. The pre-Christmas shopping extravaganza has a diverse array of items that are sure to please every taste whether you are looking for yourself or someone on your list.
