Pennsylvania’s state flower, the Mountain Laurel, is perhaps the most beautiful of native American shrubs and can be seen blossoming in June throughout our forestlands. The most popular being the Laurel Fields in Clear Creek State Forest.
Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous
Carvers from across the nation and around the world will gather in the beautiful little town of Ridgway to transform hardwood logs into life-sized works of wildlife art, large totem poles and abstract pieces with their saws and hand tools. You’ll find everything from bears to birds to the downright bizarre.
Great Outdoors Photo Contest
Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau will sponsor four photo contests in 2018-19, each with a different theme and cash prizes. We encourage everyone to submit their vacation photos, day-trip photos, or just a short hike through the woods! Amateur and professional pictures are welcome.
The rare and mesmerizing synchronous fireflies flash in unison for a few weeks each June and July, and they put on a dazzling show for anyone willing to stop and watch. A family-friendly celebration happening on June 22nd is a great place to see these unique lightning bugs in action.
- Attention shutterbugs! Grab your cameras and hit the trails. Our area boasts many scenic vistas and overlooks including Beartown Rocks and Brady’s Bend. You will definitely want to check out the Mountain Laurel between mid May and early June to witness the state flower during full bloom! Share your photos on our facebook page!
- Horsing Around! The horses want to stretch their legs too! Experience the Great Outdoors on horseback. Outfitters and guides provide enjoyable experiences for all levels of riders. View elk and other wildlife while horseback riding. Camping is also available along with an equestrian friendly Bed & Breakfast!
- Festivals, Fairs and Celebrations are plentiful this time of year and well into summer. The best part of small towns is celebrating big!
