Need to get out of the house and get some fresh air? Need a break? Here are a few things you can do in the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors region without leaving your car.

Drive through Pennsylvania’s Wild Elk Country in and around Benezette and Sinnemahoning to view the elk herd. Wykoff Run Road and the Quehanna Wild Area are also beautiful places to explore where you might see elk too. They are currently shedding their antlers, grazing in the fields, or rooting for snacks in the forest. Although they are a wild, free roaming herd, they are seen in fields and forests near the roadway.

Take a drive along River Road in Cook Forest. The Clarion River is a host for many animals including majestic eagles and river otters. A large variety of waterfowl can be seen on the Clarion River as well. Whitetail deer and wild turkey also frequent the riverbanks from the woodlands nearby.

Route 666, known as the Devil’s Highway, in Forest County meanders through the vast Allegheny National Forest. Brady’s Bend Overlook near East Brady in Clarion County and Mason Hill Overlook in Cameron County offer spectacular views to enjoy.

The Ridgway “Lily of the Valley” National Historic District Includes 730 homes, businesses and churches featuring Millionaires’ Row. You can see structures built from 1855 on, in an incredible variety of styles.

Even though it was designed for motorcycle riders the routes in our Biker’s Ride Guide can also enjoyed from the comfort of the family sedan. It features four routes, Fantastic Forest, Elk Country, Groundhog Loop, and Clarion’s Countryside, each with turn-by-turn directions and points of interest along the way. Both the Lily of the Valley map and Biker’s Ride Guide are downloadable on our website under the Free Information tab.
