You can’t have a good ghost story without an old building with lots of history. The Medix Hotel was built in 1896 and has many secrets, if you dare!
Legends of Lost Gold
This lost gold legend dates back to the Civil War. A 150+ year old secret, worth $20 million, is believed to lie somewhere in the Dents Run area of Elk County.

October 5-27 (every Friday & Saturday in October) Escape Room: Rejection is Torture – ECCOTA, Ridgway – Join us for ECCOTA’s first ever Escape Room, each Friday and Saturday in October at 7 & 8:30PM. Race against the clock to figure out what’s going on! Other ghost hunters have tried and failed. Try your luck and see if you can solve the puzzle and set the spirit free! **NEW DATES ADDED October 24 & 31**
October 5-20 (every Friday & Saturday) Escape Room: Rebel Riches – Jefferson County History Center – Gather a group of friends (2-6 people) and attempt to find the lost confederate gold hidden by Brookville’s only confederate soldier. The gold bars have never been found. Call for reservations.
October 6-27 (every Friday & Saturday in October) Haunted Barn – Brookville/Corsica – Bring your gang to the Haunted Barn for some heart stopping fun! Located between Brookville and Corsica Creatures, ghouls and goblin in every dark corner. Children 5 and under get in free.
October 12 (every Friday & Saturday in October) “Not too Scary” Nighttime Hay Ride – Fairmount City – Ride through the back fields with a storyteller and enjoy kid-friendly fall scenes at Paul’s Pumpkin Patch.
October 13 Mansions and Mayhem – Ridgway – A guided walking tour focused on Ridgway history. This is an adult event. Costumes encouraged. Reception to follow.
October 13 Murder Mystery Dinner: Dial M for Mother – Shippenville – Enjoy an evening of comedy, mystery, and dinner at Deer Creek Winery.
October 13 Fall Photo Session – Fairmount City – Fall photo session at Paul’s Pumpkin Patch compliments of Identity Studio and Design. Reservations required.
October 19-20 & 25-27 Haunted House – Clarion University Givan Hall – Clarion University’s baseball and softball teams are hosting their 2nd annual haunted house. Cost is $15 and benefit the baseball and softball programs.
October 25-26 Haunted Dorms – Clarion University Ballentine Hall – Student groups at Clarion University will transform former dormitories into walk-through haunted events.
October 26 Halloween Party – Sigel – Wear your best costume and join the fun at Sigel Hotel’s Halloween Party! Music by the Windy River Band.

October 27 Eerie Tales – Brookville – Join us for a lighted lantern tour of historic Brookville to meet the characters and hear their stories of strange but true events in our town.

October 27 Escape Room – Benezette – The Elk Country Visitor Center’s Elk Biologist has gone missing! Test your problem solving and teamwork skills to see if you can escape before the clock runs out! October 27 Heavenly Gaits Trick or Treat Trot Race – Knox – 5k run or walk happening in Knox begins at 9am. Trick or treat walk for kids begins at 9:30am. Rain or shine.

October 28 Hunchback of Notre Dame – Foxburg – Be prepared to be awed, terrified, and delighted as you step back in time to the 1920s as you watch the legendary silent horror movie classic “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” featuring sounds from the Mighty Wurlitzer.
October 28 Halloween Activity Day – Benezette – Trick or treat through educational stations at the Elk Country Visitor Center for tasty treats. Costume parade begins at 5:30.
October 28 Zombie Chase Race – St. Marys – 5K run/walk and kids fun run in St. Marys. Preregister by 10/17.
October 31 Cathedral by Candlelight – Cook Forest – Experience something different this Halloween. Walk back in time with a historical character guiding you into the depths of the Forest Cathedral. View the ancient forest as we walk beneath the giants by candlelight. Candy and hot chocolate will be served after.
Virtual Reality Escape Room
Kalyumet Fore Fun’s “Escape in Cook Forest,” a virtual reality escape room experience that’s the first of its kind in Pennsylvania. A team of up to four work together to solve clues and free themselves from a mysterious mansion.
