On April 7 celebrate National Beer Day in Pennsylvania’s Great Outdoors region. National Beer Day was established to celebrate the Cullen-Harrison Act signed in 1933 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The act allowed people to buy, sell, and drink beer that had 4% alcohol by volume. The day this went into effect, over a million and a half barrels of beer were sold. After he signed the bill, FDR is reported to have said, “I think this would be a good time for a beer.”

If your plans are to celebrate this day like FDR, come to the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors region and wet your whistle.

Go to St. Marys to Straub Brewery, which first began making beer in 1872. During prohibition, Straub brewed non-alcoholic beer, but as soon as the law changed, were right back to making the brew that has made them a staple in our region for decades. In 2019 Straub added a Tap Room and Visitor Center to the ever-popular Eternal Tap.
