The Pennsylvania Great Outdoors region has a lot of great things to do. Here is a list of great things to do in Forest County.

A Great Place for Outdoor Recreation on Land – Allegheny National Forest – Hundreds of miles of trails designated for hiking, biking, equestrian, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ATV riding. Outdoor recreation including swimming, boating, fishing, hunting, picnicking, and camping. Seasonally, Spring and Fall Tour de Forest ATV rides sponsored by Marienville Volunteer Fire Department. And Synchronized Fireflies from mid- June to mid- July (depending on the weather.)

Great Places for Outdoor Recreation on Water – Allegheny River in Tionesta – Federally designated scenic and recreational river offering boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, wilderness camping, and wildlife viewing. Fish species: walleye, musky, bass, catfish and panfish. Tionesta Lake (Tionesta) – Six miles long with more than 3,000 acres for unlimited horsepower boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, and, picnicking, with two drive-to campgrounds, and boat access-only camping.

A Great Place to Rent an ATV – DJ’s Russell City Store LLC (Russell City) – Small mountain-town general store is open year-round. Promoting Autism awareness in the workplace. Snowmobile/ATV rental, full-service garage, ice cream, bait, hoagies, and more.

A Great Place to Watch a Rodeo – Flying W Ranch (Kellettville) – Scenic horseback rides through the Allegheny National Forest. Daily and weekend vacations available. The 40th annual Allegheny Mountain Championship PRCA/WPRA Rodeo July 25-27, 2019 with performances each night at 8PM. Route. 666, Kellettville, 12 miles northeast of Tionesta.

Great Places to Whet Your Whistle and Fill Your Belly – Flying W Restaurant & Longhorn Saloon (Kellettville) – Relaxed country dining. Features include steaks, seafood, prime rib, awesome burgers, and much more. Gift shop. Route 666 Kellettville. 12 miles northeast of Tionesta. V/MC/DIS. Hills in the Forest (Tionesta) – Enjoy great food while relaxing in “The Hills” at our bar or in our dining area. Free WiFi, pool table, and five TVs. Pizza Joe’s (Tionesta) – Everyone goes to Pizza Joe’s. Your favorite neighborhood pizza place. Featuring pizza, pasta, subs, salads, wings, appetizers. Lunch specials every day. Bettina’s Italian Restaurant (Marienville) – Authentic, delicious Italian cuisine. Awesome salads, stromboli, and pizzas. A Great Place for Groceries and Souvenirs – Haller’s General Store (Tionesta) – Groceries, Subway restaurant, all your outdoor needs, hunting and fishing updates, sporting goods, live bait, souvenirs, Minnetonka Moccasins, T-shirts, homemade waffle cones, Pennsylvania lottery, gasoline.

A Great Place for Fish to Grow –Tionesta Fish Hatchery (Tionesta) – Open for tours. Raising steelhead, walleye, channel catfish, muskellunge, and tiger muskellunge for stocking in PA waterways. Open 7 days a week, 8AM-3:30PM.

A Great Place to Rent a Boat – Tionesta Marina (Tionesta)- Boat rentals and boat sales in a variety of models on Tionesta Lake. Four- and eight-hour rentals for up to eight people. Enjoy swimming and fishing.

A Great Place to Shop and Shop and Shop – Tionesta Market Village (Tionesta) – Unique shopping experience in Victorian style setting. Arts and crafts, local winery, bakery, BBQ, and honey/syrup. Open weekends May through October. Entertainment and special events.

A Great Place to GolfHunter’s Station (Tionesta) – Beautiful and challenging 18 -hole public golf course along the scenic Allegheny River. Play and stay packages available. Open April through October. Just south of Tionesta.

A Great Place for the Unexpected – Sherman Memorial Lighthouse (Tionesta) – Pennsylvania’s only inland working lighthouse, 55 feet tall, 16 feet diameter, and seven stories. Open for public tours several times each year.

A Great Place for the Budding Angler – Ross Run Children/Special Needs Fishing Area (Tionesta) – Half-mile fishing area for anglers with special needs and children under 15. From second bridge to mouth at Tionesta creek. Stocked by Kellettville Sportsman’s Club.

A Great Place to Cool Off – MACA Pool (Marienville) – Come swim at the MACA pool enjoy music, fun, and swimming all summer.

A Great Place to See Wildlife-Buzzard Swamp (Marienville) 15 ponds with 11.2 miles of trails offering exceptional wildlife viewing. Important link on the Atlantic flyway waterfowl migration path. Cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking, hunting, and fishing.

Three Great Places for Forest County History – Forest County History Center (Tionesta) – 1875 Victorian Eastlake-style home filled with artifacts from Native Americans and early settlers, tools, products from county businesses, and genealogies of local families. Lumber Camp Replica at Forest County History Center (Tionesta) – Displays a number of tools used by the wood hicks (lumbermen) as well as barge builders. Includes photos from the Collins Mill in Nebraska and the Wheeler and Dusenbury Mills in Newtown and Endeavor. Hunter’s Station Bridge Overlook (Tionesta) – Educational historic panels on design elements of the 1934 bridge, river history, Seneca Nation, archeological discoveries, and endangered mussels’ relocation, along with a piece of the original bridge.
