With February upon us, it’s time to start making Valentine’s Day plans. Whether you want to whisk your loved one away for a romantic weekend or have been talking with your friends about doing a girls’ or guys’ trip, the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors region offers a unique destination for a winter getaway.

More than 20 lodging businesses throughout the area, from B&Bs to lodges to cabins, offer winter lodging discounts and specials to make your getaway more affordable, so take advantage and plan a trip you won’t forget. The Inn at Deer Creek Winery offers a luxurious experience and special package deals for couples or a girls’ getaway, complete with breakfast and a bottle of wine included. Many suites have whirlpools to make your stay even more relaxing. Shiloh Resort in Cook Forest features a honeymoon suite with a heart-shaped tub. Gateway Lodge, also in Cook Forest, offers couples a Valentine Romance Package for the first two weekends in February that includes two nights in a fireside Jacuzzi suite, breakfasts, and five-course tasting with optional wine pairings and live entertainment.
During the day, enjoy a winter drive along River Road on the Clarion River or the Elk Scenic Drive and watch for wildlife amidst the trees and waterways. Go on a romantic walk through the Forest Cathedral in the heart of Cook Forest State Park, or take a spin on the park’s ice skating pond. Check out the region’s Wine Trail and visit some of the region’s many wineries, breweries, and distilleries for a tasting and some treats you can enjoy during your stay or once you’re home. Cap off your Valentine’s Day by watching the sunset at Mason Hill Overlook, also known as Top of the World, and a romantic dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants in the region. On February 10, Gateway Lodge in Cook Forest will hold a Valentine Dinner Tasting and Music event. Just down the road, Trail’s End Restaurant will offer a special Valentine’s dinner menu on February 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18. In Foxburg, Allegheny Grille is offering a Valentine’s Dinner and Wine Tasting for Two on February 9, 10, 11, and 14.
As a gift, a box of chocolate-covered strawberries from Dan Smith’s Candies will be a big hit. Pre-order yours for pick-up in Brookville, Clarion, or Ridgway on February 9, 10, 13, and 14.
Finally, if you’re betrothed and planning a wedding, don’t miss the Down the Aisle Park Inn Style bridal showcase at Clarion’s Park Inn on February 4.
